Michael J. Connelly III
(1952-2007)

Michael J. Connelly, a New York based business executive, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
Born in Cincinnati in 1952, Connelly was an active student leader while at Georgetown, serving as vice president of the student government at the creation of two of the most popular campus groups of its time: Students of Georgetown, Inc. (aka The Corp) and the Center Pub. He was also cited as one of the founding team behind the Georgetown University Transportation Service, or GUTS.
From his business degree in 1974, he added an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania before beginning an extended career in investment banking. He held leadership positions at Credit Suisse, Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, and the Bank of Boston before joining the Carlyle Group in 2002 as its managing director for its telecommunications practice.
Connelly was a member of the Georgetown University Board of Regents at the time of his award. He died in 2007 at the age of 55.
Denise H. Dangremond

Denise Hyland Dangremond, a dedicated class volunteer, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
The University press release for the event noted that Dangremond was the "heart of the class of 1968" for her efforts to help the class break Reunion attendance and annual giving records. She is a former member of the university's Board of Regents, through which she was instrumental in creating a new student gathering space, Alumni Lounge, a major addition to the quality of student life."
Dr. Tibor E. Frekko M.D.

Dr. Tibor Frekko, a Montgomery County, MD physician, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
Born in 1934 and raised in New York, his biography noted that he left the Queens neighborhood of Flushing in 1951 to attend Georgetown "and has been here ever since." Frekko earned three degrees at Georgetown over as 12 year period, and settled in Gaithersburg, MD for a private practice in family and internal medicine.
Dr. Frekko served on the Board of Governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association from 1998 to 2005. He was chairman of the Medical Alumni Board and is a past recipient of the Founders Alumni Award in 2002.
Brian Greenspun
AB 1968 JD 1971Las Vegas, NV
Brian Greenspun, owner and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
The eldest son of legendary Las Vegas publisher Hank Greenspun, Brian succeeded his father as publisher of the Sun following his death in 1989. The Sun, an afternoon paper, escaped the demise of many afternoon dailies by entering into an agreement in 2005 where the paper is published as insert to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The newspaper won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for "exposure of the high death rate among construction workers on the Las Vegas Strip amid lax enforcement of regulations, leading to changes in policy and improved safety conditions."
An active member of the Class of 1968, Greenspun led the effort to host the John Carroll Awards in Las Vegas that year.
Warren J. Heeg Jr.

Warren Heeg, a California based real estate agent, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
Since receiving his degree in 1958, Heeg has been apart of many successful business initiatives. "Having managed PGA Touring Pros and owned and operated an advertising agency in New York, and two apparel companies in New York and Los Angeles, I am aware of what it takes to be successful in any people oriented business," Heeg said on his web site.
He noted that for "the back nine" of his life, he moved west to Newport Beach in the 1980's, where he worked as a vice president for Remedy Staffing, the corporation owned by 1992 John Carroll awardee Bob McDonough. Warren retired from Remedy and became a successful residential real estate agent.
A past president of the Georgetown Club of Orange County, Heeg served on the Board of Governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association.
Arthur J Murphy Jr.
AB 1969Pittsburgh, PA
Arthur J. ("Art") Murphy, a Pittsburgh attorney, adjunct professor, and a true "gentleman of Georgetown", received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, NV on April 8, 2006.
An attorney by trade, Murphy commutes weekly from Pittsburgh to Washington to teach at Georgetown, giving back to the university that offered him so much. His bio at the University web site reads as follows:
"Arthur J. Murphy, Jr. is the founder and senior partner of a firm of trial lawyers, Murphy Taylor, LLC. He is a fellow of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations and the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County, and has endowed the Murphy Scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
"A noted philanthropist and civic leader in his native Pittsburgh, Mr. Murphy... established the Arthur J. Murphy Jr. Scholarship at Georgetown, opening doors of opportunity for young women and men. He created the Arthur J. Murphy Jr. Endowed Fund for Public Speaking and teaches public speaking at Georgetown, pro bono, as an affiliate adjunct professor. Sharing expertise gained as a trial lawyer and founding partner of the Murphy Taylor law firm, he has earned the highest accolades from students.
"Recognized with the John Carroll Award, Mr. Murphy has provided invaluable counsel to Georgetown over many years, beginning with his undergraduate service as senior class president. He is a senator emeritus of the Board of Governors and a former member of the Board of Regents, the College Board of Advisors and the Alumni Admission Program Board of Advisors. Guiding prospective students in the Pittsburgh region through the university admission process, he has also served Hoya alumni as a past president of the Georgetown Club of Pittsburgh.
