J. Jacques Carter M.D.

James Jacques Carter, a Boston-based physician, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Nashville, TN on April 2, 2022.

The awards release on Dr. Carter noted the following: "A native of North Carolina, Dr. J. Jacques Carter grew up in Washington, D.C. He earned degrees from Howard University and George Washington University. After a five-year stint as a sanitarian and program manager with the D.C. Department of Public Health, he left to pursue medical studies at Georgetown. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, followed by graduate work at the Harvard School of Public Health and a clinical fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Carter currently serves as an attending physician on the medical service at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Carter has been active in many civic and community organizations. He recently served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay. Carter has a long history of volunteer leadership: he was previously the chairman of the Brookline Advisory Council on Public Health; president of the Board of Trustees of Family Service of Greater Boston; member of the Board of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; co-founder and former president of the Friends of Public Health; president of the Harvard School of Public Health Alumni Association; director of the Harvard Alumni Association; and a founding member of Georgetown's African American Advisory Board"


Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster

Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster, a Greenwich-based international business executive, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Nashville, TN on April 2, 2022.

A 2020 Georgetown release noted the following: "Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster is father to four Georgetown graduates, father-in-law to two other Hoyas, and a longtime supporter of the university. He sits on the College Board of Advisors, the Italian Research Institute Board, and has for the past seven years been a member of the Latin American Board, which seeks to develop and strengthen the relationship between the university and Latin America through partnerships and the execution of high-impact initiatives on campus and in the region.

Gonzalez-Bunster is an alumnus of the 'illustrious class of 1968,' as he calls it, and now serves as the founder, chair, and CEO of InterEnergy Group. He credits his lifelong Jesuit education for shaping his perspectives."

In 2025, Rolando and his wife Monica made a $25 million gift to establish the Americas Institute, for what the University called "a cross-disciplinary platform for the university's work on Latin America and the hemisphere."


Susan Karches

Susan B. Karches, a Locust Valley, NY philanthropist, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Nashville, TN on April 2, 2022.

The awards release on Ms. Karches noted the following: "Susan B. Karches has a B.A. in English from Georgetown University and worked at John Blair and Company in New York before starting a family. She and her late husband, Peter, also a graduate of the Class of 1974, raised four children in Locust Valley, New York, three of whom are Georgetown alumni and one a Bowdoin College alumna. Together with her husband Thomas Owens, they have seven children and 14 grandchildren.

Karches served on the Board of Regents of Georgetown and the Board of Directors, where she was a member of the Committee on Strategic Development and Advancement and the Committee on Main Campus Affairs. She also was a member of the Student Affairs Working Group that enabled Board members to meet with student leaders to focus on their campus experiences. Since her family established the Peter F. Karches Scholarship at Georgetown in 2007, she and her children have enjoyed being actively involved with many of the students who are the first in their family to attend college and who credit much of their success to the Georgetown Scholars Program.

Karches is a former Trustee of Friends Academy and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. There she and Peter established the Karches Center for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Research. She is also a member of Advancing Women in Science and Medicine at the Feinstein and serves on the Campaign Executive Committee for Northwell Health. Karches and her children established the Karches Neural Bypass and Brain Computer Interface Laboratory to advocate for the field of bioelectric medicine, where research is enabling individuals with paralysis to regain movement and sensory feedback. Karches serves on the Board of the Karches Foundation, which focuses on education and medical research."


Karen Schneider

Karen Schneider, a Bethesda -based attorney, real estate executive and alumni volunteer, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Nashville, TN on April 2, 2022.

The awards release on Ms. Schneider noted the following: "Karen Schneider was a psychiatric nurse for three years and then attended law school. She spent eight years as a trial attorney and partner with Milliken, Van Susteren & Canan, and later was appointed by the federal court as a special master overseeing conditions in the Washington, D.C. correctional facilities. Subsequently, she consulted on medical/legal related issues. In 2011, she assumed the position of president of Lois Schneider Realtor, a residential real estate company in Summit, New Jersey.

A long-standing volunteer on the Hilltop, Schneider taught a mini-course on legal and ethical issues in nursing for 10 years and was an annual guest lecturer on HIV/AIDS for NHS for nine years. On the Hoya Hoop Club Board since 2007, Schneider has served as its vice president since 2009. She chaired the 25th Anniversary Gala and Auction celebrating the 1984 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship and has coordinated numerous other events. She was a member of Hoyas Unlimited Board from 2009 to 2018, served on its Executive Committee for eight of those years, and was reelected to the Board in 2020. She was elected to the Board of Governors in 2009, chaired the Strategic Plan Committee from 2014 to 2016, and is currently an active senator. She has been a class ambassador since 2015 and an alumna interviewer for more than 10 years.

An avid fan of Georgetown men's basketball, Schneider has had season tickets for more than 30 years. She and her family can be found at virtually all home games and many away games, including those in China, Italy, Hawaii, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. Karen resides in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband, David Heffernan, who she married at Dahlgren Chapel in 1987. They are proud parents of Megan (C'11) and Katie (C'14) Heffernan."


Yunho Song

Yunho Song, a New York-based business executive and alumni volunteer, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Nashville, TN on April 2, 2022.

The awards release on Mr. Song noted the following: "Yunho Song immigrated to the United States from South Korea in early 1970 with his family at the age of 7. He spent the majority of the next 12 years in California. At Georgetown University, he rowed on the men's lightweight crew team for three years, and graduated in 1986 with a degree in international finance and economics from the School of Foreign Service.

Since his graduation, Song has served the university in many roles. From 1998 to 2003, he served as a member of the Board of Governors. He has served on the School of Foreign Service Board of Advisors since 1999. He is now the senior member of the advisory board, for which he is chairing the fundraising campaign. In 2000, Song was inducted into the 1789 Society, joining as the youngest member at the time. In 2018, he joined the Board of Regents.

Song's career has taken him around the world. After graduation, he moved to New York to join the investment banking arm of Midland Bank. In 1992, after joining Fuji Capital, Song moved to London to become the head of rates trading. He spent the next 22 years working between London and New York. In 2015, he joined Ping An Bank as a special advisor to the president and moved to Hong Kong. He spends his time between Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai advising the bank, as well as Ping An Group, with their fixed-income investments."
